Darwin was built at Decauville, in France in 1899 and shipped to the Island of Sodor to work at Cas-ny-Hawin Mines on the Mid Sodor Railway. Darwin continued to work at the mines until their closure in 1946 after Stanley who was now a pumping engine failed resulting in the mine being flooded.
