Alaric lives on the Culdee Fell Railway. According to Culdee, Wilfred, and Ernest, Alaric is "nice and quiet".

Alaric was built at the Swiss Locomotive and Machine Works in Winterthur, Switzerland in 1962 to a "super-heat" design. He arrived on Sodor in May 1962, allowing Shane Dooiney to go to Switzerland for an overhaul.
